Disappointing Products & Makeup Declutter

Spending your cash on a product that turns out to not work for you is incredibly disappointing in all aspects of life but I find it particularly hard as a beauty blogger used to talking about products I love.

Ahead of a new empties post that I’m excited to write (they’re pretty much my favourite kind of post!), I decided to have a clear out too and came across a few things that have either been rehomed, repurposed or gone straight in the bin.

L’Oreal Fine Flowers Cleansing Milk & Toner

I tried to like these but it probably doesn’t help that I had them in the dry & sensitive formula when my skin is combination. Some people might like the floral scent but it just wasn’t for me and I found they could be quite irritating on my skin, which is odd since I don’t have sensitive skin and they’re supposed to work for that. I’ve passed these on to my mum to try and grabbed an alternative cleansing milk from Neutrogena!

Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick shade 101

I have the two red shades 107 and 111 and love the formula so I was expecting to get the same when I picked this pink shade up. Sadly, it applied patchy and just didn’t look anywhere near as good as the others on me! Another one to pass on.

Collection Contour Kit

This isn’t a bad product, in fairness. It just isn’t really for me. The contour never applied right on my skin and could look muddy and the highlight was too subtle for my liking. I tried to use it for a while but eventually decided it was time to let it go!

MUA Blush Perfection in Revel

I’m not sure what MUA were thinking when they made this or what I was thinking when I picked it up! It’s a cream blush duo with a light and a dark pink shade on each half of the stickĀ  but both applied exactly the same and just became a pink mess on my face that wouldn’t blend. I’ve popped this into my costume makeup box, just in case I ever need a bright pink face…

L’Oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim

I’ve had this eyeliner for a while now and I think I even mentioned it in my first ever favourites post! It has a super slim pen tip so is great if you’re like me and terrible at applying liquid liner but I realised that it fades into a murky grey colour by the end of the day and I just don’t use liquid liner enough anyway! In to the bin for this one!

PS…Chick Flick Liner White

I always seem to pick up the wrong things from Primark’s beauty range since loads of people rave about it and I haven’t been that impressed so far. I wanted this white eyeliner to try it out so I grabbed a cheap one but it just didn’t work for me! Swatched fine on my hand but would not apply to my eye at all!

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Curl Addict Mascara

Not a bad mascara but just not really what I want in a mascara. Its performance was just okay but not one I was reaching for so I passed this on to my mum before it expires.

Essence Strobing Highlighter Let it Glow

I picked this up only last week in my local Wilkinsons after swatching it on my hand, it seemed like a nice product and a good colour for my skintone. But I’ve tried to use it so many times now and it just does nothing! It’s very chalky and I can’t see it all on my face, maybe it would work for someone with paler skin. Not sure what to do with this yet since I only just bought it!

Makeup Revolution The One Foundation

I wasn’t sure if I should include this or not since I got it free in a mystery bag from Tam Beauty. I wasn’t expecting much so I’m not too disappointed but yeah…it’s just a terrible product. Wrong shade, awful packaging, comes out of the bottle the consistency of water…I’ve added it my costume makeup selection just in case I ever need it for special effects.

Somehow that L’Oreal liner sneaked in to both photos…anyway, on to the expired or good products in the wrong shade.

Avon Mark. Gel Shine Nail Polish

Not sure of the shade name but I’m only decluttering this as I didn’t like the colour. I have a few from this range and I really like the formula, just not this shade.

Collection Velvet Kiss Mango

Same for this Collection liquid lipstick. These are some of my favourite formulas and I wish they did more shades but this orangey-red just wasn’t quite right for me. I have a really similar colour from NYX that looks okay but this one is a touch too orange.

3D Fibre Lash Mascra

Not sure of the brand, I bought this on Amazon earlier this year when fibre lashes were still a thing. I didn’t dislike this but now I have mascaras that do the same thing without the extra step of adding the fibres and I just don’t reach for this anymore. I decided it’s probably expired by now.

Avon Lipstick in Toasted Rose

Lovely colour but really similar to other lipsticks in my collection and I’ve had this for a long time now.

Avon Super Extend Liquid Eyeliner

This one wasn’t as easy to master as the L’Oreal one and it’s not quite as black when first applied but it does at least stay that colour! It’s starting to dry up now so I just tossed both of them!

Helen E Skin Smoother Compact

I got this in a set from the brand a few months ago but I’m not sure what the purpose of this really is? It doesn’t really give much coverage and disappears from my face within a couple of hours. The compact itself has gotten rather tatty from hanging around the bottom of my handbag for too long so time to let this one go!

That’s everything I managed to declutter. I did open my eyeshadow palette drawer and just closed it again! I can’t bring myself to do that yet! x
