Product reviews are arguably some of the most valuable content a beauty blogger can publish in terms of generating traffic, mostly because reviews are a highly searchable subject. Here are some ideas to help you write the best product reviews you can.
This doesn’t mean you should make judgements on your beauty purchases based on what people search for, but research tells you what kind of questions people are asking about a particular product and thus what you can include in your review. Also, most blogs focus on new releases and assume that older products aren’t interesting to their readers but this isn’t always true.
- Try out a keyword tool like keywordtool.io or keywords everywhere to find out what people are typing into search engines.
- Ask your social audience
- See what other bloggers are doing for ideas incorporating dupes, swatches, looks etc into your reviews
Structure and headings
Breaking up your content with headings is not only good for search engine optimisation, it also makes things easier for your readers. Most of us are skim readers and will scan product reviews for the piece of information we need so if you’re not ordering your content into any sort of structure, you’ll likely lose readers when they can’t find what they want. I personally structure product reviews into the different categories that I think are useful such as packaging, price, swatches, application etc but again, this is a great thing to research as you might find out people are interested in looks or dupes or something you hadn’t thought of.
Read other reviews on the product
I guess this technically forms part of your research but I think it deserves its own section. If you are interested in optimising your content for search engines, finding out what else is already ranking is a great tip but also just reading other reviews can help you out if you’re not sure how to describe something or you might have forgotten to mention something.
