Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara Review

There’s been a lot of hype around this mascara but I wanted to give it a proper test and review the Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara for you so I’ve been trying this for a couple of months now.

It’s worth mentioning before we get into the review that I have quite long lashes naturally so most mascaras work well on me but my personal preference is a thick, clumpy lash with lots of volume.

Packaging

Maybelline have kept the theme of the original Lash Sensational with the pink packaging but have gone for a taller tube with the Sky High lettering embossed on the side.

Price

Lash Sensational Sky High retails for £9.99 in the UK, which I believe is the same price as the OG. At just under £10, that’s pretty standard for a mid-range drugstore brand like Maybelline but it’s frequently on offer and can be picked up cheaper.

Application

This mascara has a very flexible rubber wand that tends to pick up a lot of product. This isn’t my usual favourite and I do find it best to wipe off excess product on the tube before I apply to my lashes. The formula is quite wet, and the flexible brush means you have to be quite careful with the application or it can get messy.

Effect

Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High reminds me a little of the Benefit Bad Gal Bang because of the wet formula but it is a bit easier to work with than that one. It generally gives a very lengthened and separated look but it’s not my personal preference for how I want my lashes to look as I prefer to have more volume at the roots.

Wear

This is where the Sky High mascara really shines in my opinion as it stays looking very black, holds a curl and doesn’t flake or smudge at all on me. If you’re looking for an affordable mascara that offers longevity, I would definitely consider this one.

Something I find with the original Lash Sensational is that the mascara dries up fairly quickly in the tube, making it difficult to fully get use out of the product and making it more expensive than it seems. I’ve had this one open for a couple of months now and it’s not showing any signs of drying up yet, maybe because it’s a wetter formula.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Stays put all day and doesn’t flake
  • Lengthening and separating
  • Holds a curl well
  • Very black (depends on your preference)

Cons

  • Flexible wand and wet formula can make it messy
  • Not volumising
  • Maybelline aren’t CF
